I recently stumbled upon a post about a production of Dr Korczak’s Example at Leeds Playhouse by James Brining 18 years since working on this.
Written by David Greig and directed by James Brining, this TAG theatre (Citizens Theatre learning branch – “Theatre About Glasgow”) production was my first foray into theatre photography. These photos were all set up rather than documenting a rehearsal which is unusual. In addition to this they were taken in a rehearsal space with strip lighting so I used flash guns to light the actors. I was using my first digital camera, a Nikon D100, back then which was a far cry from the incredible machines we have nowadays.
Looking back at this I’d do it very differently nowadays and cringed a bit looking at some of the images and the way I edited them! But had it not been for this photo shoot, the adventure in theatre photography I’ve had since then might never have happened. Thanks go to Helen Cassidy (TAG Marketing) and James Brining (Director) for taking a chance with me.
